Curriculum

Our House offers therapeutic alternative education programme for students age 6-16 at our secluded site in Bath and Peasedown St John. We are able to accommodate a small number of local students unable to manage their current school provision. ​

Our House provides a programme where learning is delivered in a professional, nurturing, and therapeutic environment, to allow students to feel safe, increasing their confidence and building self-esteem. The team (including a play therapist, teacher, beauty therapist and foster carers) are equipped with specialist skills in order to create a bespoke, adaptable approach to re-engage every student with learning. Our aim is to encourage confidents and respect, improve behaviour and enable them to achieve their targeted outcomes.

Our House lessons incorporate Maths, English and PSHE in a creative way, to facilitate students to become engaged and actively learn. We focus on ASDAN courses (when appropriate) as well as Life skills, Health and Wellbeing, confidents, mindfulness, Fitness/ Sport, Art, Family and Relationships, Personal Growth, and Problem Solving.

Key Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4
We are committed to providing students with high quality provision that will provide students with a curriculum that they love and is relevant to their needs. Our curriculum will have clear aims and objectives for each student. Our success is seeing students reach their full potential and reengage with peers and education.
All of our lessons will be delivered as both formal and informal lessons. They will be well planned with clear objectives, learning outcomes and tailored to the individual child.

Key Stage 3 and 4
​
In addition, for key stage 3 and 4 there are opportunities to gain accreditations in ASDAN where applicable-
ASDAN courses available-
Animal care, Uniformed services, Construction, Hair and Beauty, Sport and fitness, Maths, English, Child care, Food, PSHE, Computing plus more

Science, Technology, Engendering and Math's (STEM)- Our House students will gain knowledge and understanding of STEM thought their daily lives, as well as have opportunities to engage in STEM activities
​
English- Our House promotes language and literacy through in ASDAN sessions, focusing on their special interests.
PSHE- Our House sessions will cover health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. Alongside this, we aim to build students’ self-esteem and enrich their understanding and empathy towards both themselves and others.


Referral criteria
We work with students...

who are unable to manage the challenges of mainstream education or their current provision, full or part time

with SEMH needs- trauma, anxiety, PTSD

on a full care order

with or without an EHCP

with neurodivergent students
Our House Provides

Transport student to and from Our House

Students attend daily sessions of 5 hours

We provide a maximum of 3 sessions and a minimum of 1 session per week to any student

Most sessions take place at the 'Our House' base,

Students will be offered meaningful outing once a term
Admissions Process
Before each prospective student is offered a place, our team will carefully examine all professional documentation (referral form, EHCP etc.), meet both student and parents/carers, and work with educational professionals to understand the challenges and objectives to ensure we can provide the right support and achieve the desired outcomes.
Once a student is offered a place, a bespoke package tailored to their needs will be provided. Accurate and regular monitoring, as well as feedback to both parents/carers and school, will be of the highest priority, ensuring that Our House is delivering a high standard of provision and working towards the mutual objectives set.
