Our house 

Curriculum

​

Our House offers an alternative education programme for students at our secluded site in Bath and Peasedown St John. We will be able to accommodate a small number of local students unable to manage school providing educational opportunities to help them return.

 

Our House is building a programme where learning is delivered in a professional, nurturing, and therapeutic environment, to allow students to feel safe, increasing their confidence and building self-esteem. The team are equipped with specialist skills in order to create a bespoke, adaptable approach to re-engage every student with learning. Our aim is to encourage respect, improve behaviour and enable them to achieve their targeted outcomes.

Our House lessons incorporate Maths, English and PSHE in a creative way, to facilitate students to become engaged and actively learn. We focus on Life skills, Health and Wellbeing, Managing Money, Managing a Home, Fitness/ Sport, Gardening, Art, Family and Relationships, Personal Growth, and Problem Solving.

Key Stage 3

We are committed to providing students with high quality provision that will provide students with a curriculum that they love and is relevant to their needs. Our curriculum will have clear aims and objectives for each student while adhering to the national curriculum guidelines. Our success is seeing students reach their full potential and reengage with education.

All of our lessons will be delivered as both formal and informal lessons. They will be well planned with clear objectives, learning outcomes and tailored to the individual child.

Our priorities include:

· functional skills

· vocational studies

· personal development and therapeutic aspects of learning

· frequent site-specific activities

· cooking & eating together

In addition, there are opportunities to gain qualifications from Entry level 2 to Level 1. This includes accreditations in both NOCN and ASDAN where applicable

English- Our House promotes language and literacy through direct skills lessons and consolidated 

Our English sessions focus on improved reading, increasing vocabulary both spoken and written, improved handwriting, grammar and linguistic conventions.

Maths- Our House students will strengthen their knowledge of mathematical concepts. These will include shapes and space, common measures, handling information and data and problem solving.

Science- Our House students will gain knowledge and understanding of science thought their daily lives, this will incorporating how their bodies work and the world around them.

PSHE- Our House sessions will cover health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. Alongside this, we aim to build students’ self-esteem and enrich their understanding and empathy towards both themselves and others.

Referral criteria

We work with students...

  • who are unable to manage the challenges of mainstream education or their current provision, full or part time

  • with SEMH needs- trauma, anxiety, PTSD

  • on a full care order

  • with or without an EHCP

  • with neurodivergent students including dyslexia and ADHD

Our House Provides 

  • Transport student to and from Our House

  • Students attend daily sessions of 5 hours

  • We provide a maximum of 3 sessions and a minimum of 1 session per week to any student

  • Most sessions take place at the 'Our House' base,

  • Students will be offered meaningful outing with clear objectives and outcomes.

Admissions Process

Before each prospective student is offered a place, our team will carefully examine all professional documentation (referral form, EHCP etc.), meet both student and parents/carers, and work with educational professionals to understand the challenges and objectives to ensure we can provide the right support and achieve the desired outcomes.

Once a student is offered a place, a bespoke package tailored to their needs will be provided. Accurate and regular monitoring, as well as feedback to both parents/carers and school, will be of the highest priority, ensuring that Our House is delivering a high standard of provision and working towards the mutual objectives set.
